I like to think of myself as somewhat of a "Toddler Whisperer". I've said it before and I'll say it again, I just adore this age group! I try to connect with them and get down on their level right from the start of the session, because let's be real here, they are going to lead the session, not me. They just want to explore and play and assert their independence. And who can blame them? But the photographer MUST have a bag of tricks up their sleeves to keep them interested and happy. Although sometimes, when you let them go, and be free, they do the cutest things on their own, like toss their stuffed bunny high in the air!
I always tell parents of toddlers, what to expect from their child before the session. They will want to run, jump and play the entire time. They will probably not be very interested in what we are doing. I will not tell them to say "cheese" either, I will try to make them smile and laugh in a genuine way and capture that real moment.
I love this little family! I had just seen them for their son's newborn session, and they wanted photos outdoors a few months later. Big sissy kept us moving, but in the end, I think. we captured their reality perfectly. New baby and active toddler, it doesn't get much better than that! I love my job. <3
